  • Thinking of the school holidays, which films are on general release?
  • All of the films above which are rated the top 5 grossing films of 2016, would have all been released around school holidays, as 4/5 is aimed at a younger audience. For example Finding Dory was released 18th July in England which was around the day everyone broke up from school for their summer holidays. This enables more of a larger audience too view this film as it is around a period that their target audience is free too watch it. Also, the cinema is an event that most kids are enthusiastic about due too seeing them advertised on their programmes. With Captain America, a younger audience may view this film as they may be a fan of super hero films, however, the other 4 are aimed more towards 3-12 year olds.

  • What genre of films are there?
  • -Action = Captain America
-Adventure = The Jungle Book, Zooptopia
-Animation = Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets, Finding Dory
    -Comedies

    -Crime
    -Drama
    -Epics
    -Horror
    -Musical
    -Sci/Fi
    -War
    -Westerns

  • How many are sequels?
  • Only two of the above films are sequels which are Finding Dory and Captain America.

  • How many are blockbusters aimed at a younger audience?
  • Jungle Book and Finding Dory are both blockbusters and are aimed at a younger audience. Jungle Book was a remake of the cartoon film which was originally aimed at a younger audience, as well as Finding Dory was a part two of Finding Nemo, and this is a Disney film, meaning that most of their films were aimed at the youth.

  • How many were produced by the Big Six?

  • All of the films above were produced by the Big Six, apart from The Secret Life of Pets, which was produced by Illumination Entertainment. This being the last one of the top 5 grossing films show that films produced by the Big Six aren't always the ones that do the best overall.

  • How many different formats are there? Name them.

  • There are a variety of formats that films are shown in, these being 2D, 3D, 4D/IMAX.
    - Captain America: Civil War = 2D, 3D, IMAX
    - Finding Dory = 2D, 3D, IMAX
    - Zootopia = 2D, 3D
    - The Jungle Book =2D, 3D, IMAX
    - The Secret Life Of Pets = 2D, 3D

  • What kinds of films seem to be missing?
  • Comparing the top 5 grossing films next too each other highlight that a variety of films are missing from this list. For example the films and their genres that aren't on this list are Teen Films such as (Paper Towns/Fault in Our Stars), Chick Flicks (Mean Girls/White Chicks), also sad and horror films aren't shown within this list.

  • How many of the film distributors seem to be producers as well?
  • - Finding Dory = Walt Disney.
    - Zootopia = Walt Disney.
    - The Jungle Book = Walt Disney.
-The Secret Life of Pets = Universal.
All of the above films have the same distributors and production company.

  • Who do you think are the target audiences for these?
  • The main target audience of these films are a range from 3-18, however there are the selective films within this group that are restrictive for some ages. For example, The Jungle Book wouldn't be aimed primarily towards a low audience like 3 year olds, however, Finding Dory and The secret life of pets would be. In addition, Captain America: Civil War would be aimed towards the older end of the younger generation such as 5-16, however the secret life of pets would be primarily aimed towards, oldest age 8
    • Have a look at release schedule in the UK for December 2016 and January/February 2017 as we approach awards season and have a big blockbuster lead up in the fall. What are your findings?

    Different TV Dramas Genres.

As for today's lesson, we recapped again with how we answer an exam question and the structure that needs to be followed to achieve an efficient grade. For example, all the different viewings that need to be considered throughout, such as Camera, Mise en Scene, Sound, Editing and Representation. All of these involve an acronym to help within the exam, such as DISTINCT, DRCAGES, CLAMPS, FAM and STOPS.

    TV Sub-Genre Dramas

    1. TEEN DRAMA

Examples of Teen Dramas consist of 90210, Once upon a Time, Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl. All of these Teen Dramas are mainly on Netflix which is aimed towards an audience that watch their TV on all different types of devices, as Netflix is available on a TV, Laptop, Phone and PC. Teen Dramas don't usually involve any rude language or explicit scenes that could offend a younger audience. This is normally aimed towards a specific type of audience as opposed too different types of TV Dramas such as Costume Drama.
    2. PERIOD/COSTUME DRAMA
There is a variety of different costume drama's such as Downtown Abbey, Pride and Prejudice, Upstairs Downstairs and MadMen. Downtown Abbey is a specific type of TV programme that is significantly aimed towards a range of an audience. It isn't a category that a whole group of different audiences will watch together. This type of programme is usually watched individually and is discussed among peers that watch it also.
    3. POLICE/CRIME DRAMA
Types of Police/Crime dramas involve, Broadchurch, Making a Murderer and The Bill. The Bill is now an older series that is no longer aired on the TV however it can be viewed online on some websites. Where as Broadchurch is still available on different Broad Bands and was brought back after a huge success. These examples of this type of drama all vary with their topic types, which is why Police/Crime dramas are frequently watched by a variety of audiences as they normally have different storylines, including different themes each episode too keep people intrigued.
    4. MEDICAL/HOSPITAL DRAMA
Casualty, Holby City, ER and Greys Anatomy are all different examples of Medical/Hospital dramas. With medical dramas, these are popular too an audience wanted too experience a type of reality and too understand terms that occur within surgery. Also within these types of dramas, they are fast paced and an event occurs every episode, for example, someone going into A&E, or a partial update on a patient that is key within the programme.

    Representation examples..

    Gossip Girl
Class- Within Gossip Girl the class is the highlighted factor throughout the costume, setting, language, and the characters. This is shown through the costume as many of them come from a fortunate background, and they wear designer clothing, many of which express and use too their advantage. There is also class represented through the settings and locations in comparison of the characters and where they live. For example, Blair (one of the main characters) lives in a mansion on the upper east side, comparing too, Dan who lives on the alternative of the old-moneyed and conservative Upper East Side, and is looked down upon as the series carry out.
Age- Most of the characters within this programme are around the same age group. The main age that is focused on throughout is the teenagers, with the second age being their parents. However, although the focus is on the middle generation, there are a few babies introduced although, they aren't the focus, as the main setting that involves age is high school.
Gender- There is an equal variety of gender roles played throughout the whole series. There is no dominance of gender that tries to suggest innocence or power. Almost everyone is in a relationship at one point.

    What is a TV Drama?

Throughout today's lesson we went over the exam scheme and recalled what will occur throughout the exam, for example, we understood the questions and analysed how long we are expected too spend on each question. From this we moved over too looking at TV drama and what aspects of this genre affect what it is.

    What is TV Drama?

TV Drama can be divided into various different categories / genre and all portray different too make them the type they are. Television Drama is primarily dialogue led and usually tells a story over a period of time. TV Dramas vary between a series and one a one off programme. There is a variety of different budgets that are put in towards different programmes. Too compare two different types of TV Dramas could be the difference between The Game Of Thrones and Casualty. Game of Thrones has been rated the number one TV Drama, due too the budget and worth that it involves, in comparison, Casualty n=did not have a lot of money put in towards the series, therefore there are minimal locations within the TV programmes.

What TV Drama's do you watch and why?

One of the main types of genres that I occasionally watch is reality series. I feel that I turn toward watching this the most as they are individually relatable with current events. Also, reality stars are linked within the media which I am daily involved with, for example, with me being situated within Essex, The Only Way is Essex is popular within our area and these figures are frequently involved within the news or TV shows. However, the main TV Drama that I watch are Teen Dramas and these consist of Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, 90210 and Once Upon A Time, all of which I have watched on Netflix. All of  these are my favourite too watch because there are series of these which allow me too watch one episode after another, which involve a different topic each time.
